Dental Information Systems - Denis (Reg. no. 1996/000371/07) is the largest independent dental claims administrator in South Africa and during the past 15 years has successfully made its mark in the South African Healthcare Industry.

Contracted by some of South Africa’s largest medical schemes, Denis has become well established as the market leader in dental benefit management, currently representing over 1 million lives on our book of clients, representing a 70% market share. Denis offers a unique set of insured dental benefits, managed by a powerful rules-based management system, which enables dental costs to be cost-effectively managed.

The Denis team of over 100 staff members includes full time dentists, oral hygienists, dental nurses, various IT programmers and more than 50 specialist call centre consultants. More than 2,000 calls are routed daily from both service providers and members to our call centre and over 100 000 dental claims are processed monthly. The technology and architecture used, has been acclaimed as the best in Africa. Dental practitioners, who register with the Denis Online Facility, are able to bill directly into the Denis system and receive authorisation and payment.

For medical schemes joining Denis, the advantage lies in the annual per patient fee that schemes pay up front. Essentially, this means a full risk transfer to Denis, as the dental benefits are capped for the year and the scheme knows its commitment upfront. Denis then effectively controls dental costs on behalf of the scheme. In addition, there are a number of benefits to members of schemes contracted to Denis. These include customised benefits for each individual in the family, pre-notification and member education.

Apart from the risk transfer model of service, Denis is also capable to provide scaled-down versions of benefit management. These include:-

• Outsourced Managed Care functions 
• Network management functions, making use of our extensive, nation-wide Network of dentists
• Outsourced Hospital pre-authorisation functions

or any combination of the above.
